There is patch of 300 acres of lbarren rocky land with AIRPORT AITHORITY ( now with DIAL) , right at junction of airport road and NH 8 ( right where the airport express metro enters the AAI land). It is entry to the city, and needs to be greened. Smt Indira Gandhi made it a point to creat a green on defence land at Dhaula Kuan , since it was the entry point to the capital for all head of States, when the international arrivals where at the old complex. Now as u come out of T3 we get to see illegal hotels at Mahipalpur on one side and huge barren patch on the other.

Since, it is an area close to the airport ,  DIAL is making special plan for greening the area. In this area, those plants are to be planted by DIAL which do not attract birds and have low height.

Hi,
I really appreciate this effort but being a person who drives to his office daily 44 KM up and down, from South Delhi to Gurgaon, I sincerely feel that the road dividers and medians are the ones which should be on our priority list for Tree plantation. Just visualize in your mind , how green our city would look if all the dividers were full of lush green trees – of Neem, Ashoka etc. Shouldn’t the Govt. devise a plan and policy with tight SLA and target to plant AND maintain the trees on road dividers in order to help every nook and corner of our city become REALLY GREEN.
Still cant forget people meeting with accidents, getting entangled in the green net installed on both sides of the road dividers during CWG games and now its in shambles due to the lack of maintenance.

So, Lets get real and think about planting and maintaining trees where it matters the most – The road dividers and DDA/MCD parks which have got converted into unauthorized parking spaces for buses.

Hi, i really appreciate that u people have finally consider DDA green belt land for plantation in ASHOK VIHAR…but i would like to inform you that it will be useless to do plantation without repairing the wall towards the railway line, which is broken by people living in slum, across that railway line, everytime anyplantation is done ,they pull them out and also they are using that DELHI GREEN COVER as their toilets.so i request the authorities to take action before that green cover turns into another slum.

I would like to request greenleap delhi to make this event and this call a well known event, very few households have access to internet and thereby the reach of this blog is very limited, i would suggest and request greenleapdelhi to take the path of radio, television and newspaper where planting a million trees campaign is advertised daily till our goal is reached, I am sure that channels and radio stations and newspapers would be willing to give us a space, please devise an advertisement like” Would you like to cool down delhi by 5 degrees, would you like more bird species to be flying in and around delhi, would you like the air to be cleaner for your kids and family, would like to drive to office in air conditioned city, then lets join hands and plant a tree, coz only if you plant a tree today will your children live in a air conditioned city.” Please make this beautiful drive a talk of the town , lets make delhi a place where if you see from google maps you see no concrete but only trees.

I would request greenleapdelhi to identify more spots for tree plantation , dividers in between the roads and on the side of the roads should be widely used to give drivers and passerby shades , please make our roads green i would request you to identify one complete road. for example i had seen this in US in bay area that govt advertised this “adopt a road” programme and people from that area were given saplings and 1-2 experts to help them plant trees on dividers near to their area, hence they were given content money , when the trees survived, I would request you to start lanuching programmes like “Make ring road Green” ” Make MG road Green” ” Make Outer Ring Road Green” these would help identify areas which need attention and we would focus better unless the entire road is planted with trees.

I would like to request you to please help us make roads in kingsway camp, mall road , trans yamuna roads green.

A very good initiative by Delhi Govt. All our life we lived in Cantt and the thing we miss most is the greenery . We have identified some patches in our housing society for a ‘plantation drive ‘ on 15th Aug . Can someone suggest a place in Dwarka to get the ‘cuttings’ please.

Dear Ms. Bhavika,
Planting on road sides need careful planning and design thus it would be advisable for you to use your neighborhood for planting.

There is not any single outlet for sapling distribution near Krishna Nagar/West Azad Nagar or Rajgarh COlony or Gandhi Nagar and many more places nearby….. which is highly populated and not any greenery drive has been taken at these places.
Such a grave concern

It is wonderful on the part of the Delhi Government to involve the public in increasing the ‘Green cover’ of Delhi. There are some areas that have been identified for this special drive. Is it possible for Group Housing Societies in these areas to get free saplings and plant them in and around their residential complexes as it would be easy to ensure that the saplings are taken care of. Ensuring survival of these saplings is as important as their plantation. Hoping for a reply.

Om Parkash July 29, 2011 at 10:51 AM

In the current and future plantation drives we should plant only those species of plants which require less maintenance and grow speedly. Some of these species are Neem, Peepal, Bargad, Pilkhan, Jamun, Imli etc. These trees when grown up provide ample shade and green cover, clean air and last but not least provide food and shelter to the birds. It is due to the lack of such trees that birds are not seen in the most parts of the city. We should always avoid the ornamental trees which are being planted by various agencies now a days.

Hi! I am part of an NGO called Swechha and we have a project called Monsoon Woodings where we plant and protect trees in and around Delhi by actively working with young citizens.
We are interested in planting in the DDA land between Sarita Vihar and Kalindi Kunj. Does that land come under the DDA od Sarita Vihar or Kalindi Kunj? Who should we contact to carry out a plantation on that land?
