ABOUT GREENLEAP
The Department of Environment has been assigned responsibility of improving the overall Environmental Quality in Delhi. The Department is actively engaged in overall environmental assessment, monitoring, protection and awareness rising among the people of Delhi. Multi-dimensional approach is being adopted by the Department for promotion, conservation and preservation of Environment. The activities of Department of Environment are:
- Motivating citizens of Delhi to keep surroundings clean and green.
- Promoting an ethos of conservation of water by minimizing the use of water and wastage of water.
- Motivating the citizens to imbibe habits and life styles supportive of minimum waste generation, source separation of waste, disposing off the waste at the nearest storage point.
- Composting horticulture waste, to use it as manure for kitchen gardens, nurseries, parks etc.
- Creating awareness among public and sanitary workers to stop the indiscriminate burning of waste/leaves that causes air pollution.
- Sensitizing the citizens to minimize the use of plastic bags. Not to throw them in public places as they choke drains and sewers. Being non-biodegradable they cause water logging and provide breeding ground for mosquitoes. Also, to encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives like jute, cloth and recycled paper bags, etc.
- Organizing Tree plantation programmes in schools, residential areas, parks, industrial areas etc.
- Creating awareness for celebrating festivals like Dusshera, Diwali, Holi in an eco friendly manner.
- Educating the citizens about reuse of waste material by promoting the concept of the three R’s i.e. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
- Coordinating with the various Departments/Agencies to combat climate change issues such as energy conservation, water conservation by recycling of water, rain water harvesting, green building concept, use of renewable energy, installation of CFL, promotion of battery operated vehicle.

It can be a revolution, if people get addicted to it. Its basically a religion for true plant lovers. Co-ordination, co-operation is what we require to cite this effort. Educating people about greenery and their benefits should be stated at a public stature. Air quality on the other, is getting worse day by day, which requires further attention. Hence this effort is worth an asset for all.
I truly support this, and beg you sir, to involve me in whatever way you can. I’ll give my best.
Thanking you,

Dear Sir/Madam,
I live in Rajouri Garden I want to plant a tree in my locality , I called the the numbers mentioned on your website to collect a sapling , Mr Narayanan of Rajouri garden says they dont have the sapling will get in 4-5 days . The person at Subhash Nager( Mr Nagendra ) is very rude and says to contact the person who has put his no on the web site .
Why you people start a campain when you are not ready for it.
I just gave a call to Mayur Vihar Metro station and K Jackson was very prompt in his response and explained me very clearly about the process so I believe it depends on person to person. Probably you can also give a call to mayur vihar metro station to find out the details on how to collect… procedure shud be same in all the metro stations.

Hello friends,
I am a faculaty at NSIT, sector III, DWARKA, New Delhi. I am also the warden of the first year students hostel. NSIT is quite green, but still we (Staff and students of FIRST YEAR HOSTEL) organise a VANMAHOTSAV in the second week of AUGUST evry year. Why do we do so
1. It is noble to plant a tree.
2.Students who participate have a great feeling of association with the place of plantation.
3. They may probably motivate others to do so(at other places).
4.They will learn to protect a nsaplings
5. Few years later the area around hostels will be extremely green and future students will stay in a very clean environment.
We palnted
1. Neem
2. Rat ki rani
3. Gurhal
4. Harsingar
So, friends, just mobilse a few of your friends, collect saplings from Govt. Nursery and plant them in some park around your house. You will feel very proud 2 years later, when the saplings grow into trees.
Recently, I saw a kiosk of green leap delhi at a petrol pump in Dwarka. Is it possible to have such a counter at NSIT on the day of VANMAHOTSAV.

Hi – it is indeed heartening to know about this project, given the number of trees that have been felled in Delhi for various infrastructure building activities. I appreciate the good thought and work that will help Delhi regain its greenery.
I have a suggestion that the existing trees also be taken care of along with the new ones being planted. As most of you would notice the renovation of the road sides and creation of footpaths etc are ending up cementing/sealing the existing trees leaving very little space or no space at all for the rain water to sink into the ground. While at places it has been done thoughtfully at others the state is sad. Please do remember to leave at least 6-10 inches of space round the trees – it also looks very nice.
Thanks
We are running an NGO by the name of KRISHNAV FOUNDATION.As a social activity we want to spread greenery in the locality of Jasola,New Delhi.Kindly provide us the saplings to carry forward the initiative taken by you.

My neighbours are not letting me plant saplings around the empty land besides my house. They wish to put concrete on it and park cars and scooters right outside my window. The plantings I put in the soil were uprooted and thrown many a time by them. I suffer from respiratory problems and have been advised to plant trees.
Please suggest what should I do?
